JOURNAL 2 - First hike - Umtanum Creek Falls

3 februari 2020 - Ellensburg, Washington, Verenigde Staten

First I would like to say I tried to attach the pics in nice, but that didn't work. My apologies if it doesn't look too creative.

In the first class, Friday, Matt already had planned out a hike, on Saturday, and for everybody that knows me, of course, I went. I had been to theUmtanum Creek Falls in the Fall before. It was so gorgeous with all the leaves, I wanna see this in the winter with all the snow too (I know you're gonna find the wanna annoying, more the reason to do so :). Next are some pics how it looked like in fall. They are originally videos so my apology for the way they look.

So there we went, I, with my Adidas, perfect hiking shoes, and over half of the class, Chris (head of the DHC), Matt, his wife, and his two adorable daughters, to the Umtanum Creek Falls. Once we got there, mud was everywhere, great. Then before we entered, a group came out and said it was super slippery and we should be very careful. Matt let me borrow one of his hiking sticks and later I was very, very happy I got it. One of the girls I had already met last quarter took charge on front, acting as our tour guide. She is so funny and sweet. We had been walking for 20 minutes and it was pretty, not as pretty as in the fall, but pretty. But oh my, what was it slippery.

I hadn't fallen yet, and then Matt got caught up on me and my buddy (everybody had a buddy to look out for), and he asked if I wanted to borrow his thingies for under my shoes since Adidas are not convenient hiking shoes, AT ALL. I had been fine so far, so I told him I was okay with only the stick, and I remember he made a joke about me falling. And. What. Happened. Dena fell right on her butt. Great. Uhm Matt, can I borrow those things still? Frightened for my life and a few heart attacks further, I made it to the top! It was gorgeous. Chris made some pictures of me and I made some pictures myself. If you zoom in on my face of the last picture underneath here, you'll see what my mood was ;).

Usually, you go back down and the same path back, but that was just too dangerous so we went back up in the hill. I was going to post some pics of how it looked like in the fall but for some reason, the pics aren't attaching to the document. At the end of the hike, my buddy looked on my beanie and said "Yup, bad choices good stories." And it's true, it was really fun mad, but maybe not the smarties idea. I'm excited to find out what else we are going to do. See you in class tomorrow ;).
